Good Shepherd Medical Center – Longview
Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in men.
The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 241,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed this year. Since symptoms of the disease may not appear until the cancer is in advanced stages, early detection through screening is important.
Men of all ages are at risk to develop this type of cancer, although it is most often found in men over age 50. African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer are at an even higher risk. These men should begin testing as early as age 45. Early detection is the key to beating prostate cancer.
